The “Sun” 2018, the best recognition of “Guida Oro I Vini di Veronelli”, shines in Fossalta di Piave: “Stèfen 1624” vintage 2012, obtained from Marzemino grapes, has received the prestigious award. Only 10 Italian wines have been awarded among more than 16.000 candidates, and among those the label producted by De Stefani Winery, the only one for Veneto. The Sun identifies, indeed, ten “stories in a wine way” that Seminario Veronelli want to propose to the attention of the readers as representatives of the amazing richness of the Italian viticulture. 

“Receiving the award in the Cenacolo Palladiano of the Giorgio Cini Foundation in Venice was a sublimation of the satisfaction! Still more because this special award of the editorial staff is assigned only to ten labels which do represent the intelligence, the creativity and the dedication of the Italian wine producers” says Alessandro De Stefani, fourth generation of wine growers which produce wines in a biological and biodynamic way, from old vineyards with a high density adding value to the indigenous vineyards.

Stèfen is the ancient surname of the De Stefani family, as written in old documents dated 1624 found in Refrontolo. The grapes of this wine are produced in the "Stèfen 1624" vineyard and are vinificated recalling the ancient tradition of drying the grapes and refining the wine for a long time in oak casks. The result is a dry wine which improves with a long ageing and which is deal with bushmeat, meat on the spit, seasoned cheeses or alone as a meditation wine. It presents a very deep ruby color with garnet hues, intense scents of ripe wild fruits and of violet and a full body, with clear notes of ripe cherry and blackberry. Soft, tasteful and sumptuous, it gives a long persistence of the taste and olfactory sensations, that further improves and increases after some years of ageing.
